UZH Space Hub

Technopark Liechtenstein - a new alliance of UZH Space Hub

With great pleasure, we welcome Technopark Liechtenstein as partner of the UZH Space Hub. Othmar Oehri, CEO Technopark Liechtenstein, and Oliver Ullrich, Director UZH Space Hub, are very much looking forward to this cooperation. Oliver emphasizes the enormous innovative power in Liechtenstein: "Liechtenstein is a broadly diversified industrial country. Almost half of the gross domestic product is generated by industry. Liechtenstein is also a hot spot of innovation. Measured as share of the gross domestic product, no country in the world invests more in research and development than Liechtenstein. The partnership with Technopark Liechtenstein enables mutual networking of our start-up communities, the establishment of new R&D collaborations, new interfaces from idea to development to distribution and marketing, and last but not least access to investors and opportunities for growth financing".

Technopark Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein as an innovative business location for entrepreneurs

Locally rooted, globally active - With around 4,500 registered companies per 38500 inhabitants, Liechtenstein can be described as a country of entrepreneurs: The two market accesses to the EU/EEA and Switzerland and the moderate corporate taxation make Liechtenstein very attractive for companies from all sectors. In the areas of blockchain, fintech and token economy, Liechtenstein is an innovative pioneer introducing the "Blockchain Act" in 2020 as the world's first law to regulate the use of blockchain technology. Especially for innovative business models, Liechtenstein has the unique legal form LVC (Liechtenstein Venture Cooperative), where an innovator can put his/her idea into its own legal form early on and thus collaborate more easily with partners and investors - all with minimal bureaucratic and financial effort.

Othmar Oehri, CEO Technopark Liechtenstein

In the following, you can read an interview with the CEO of Technopark Liechtenstein, Othmar Oehri, and the Community Manager, Tanja Steck (in the pictures on the right).

Why is Liechtenstein interesting for a Swiss start-up?
As a member of the European Economic

Tanja Steck

Area (EEA), Liechtenstein is part of the European single market and at the same time integrated into the Swiss economic area through the Currency and Customs Treaty. This means that in Liechtenstein you basically have the advantages of both economic areas. In addition, with the legal form of the LVC (Liechtenstein Venture Cooperative), Liechtenstein offers start-ups the opportunity to launch their business without capital and without formation costs.

Why is the UZH Space Hub interesting for a start-up from Liechtenstein?
Liechtenstein offers good framework conditions, as described above. But its small size means there is little space and no laboratory infrastructure. This, in turn, is offered by the UZH Space Hub in Dübendorf. In this way, we complement each other perfectly.

What is the importance of Space and the Space Economy for Liechtenstein?
Companies in research and development are very important for start-ups in Liechtenstein. The space economy is not (yet) prominently developed. We want to catch up and strengthen it with this cooperation.

co-working space at Technopark

You are a Technopark. Is it mainly about technology?
Our focus in attracting start-ups is the technical sector, e.g. Fintech and Blockchain-based business models that can benefit from the corresponding political framework conditions in Liechtenstein. But there is also room for other business ideas as long as they are innovative and scalable and there is a prospect of success.

UZH Space Hub members are invited to join the community at Technopark Liechtenstein, to participate in events, to use office space and meeting and seminar rooms with modern audio and video equipment. Please contact Dr. Cora Thiel, UZH Space Hub @ Technopark Liechtenstein for any inquiries.
