New video on our YouTube channel on LISA, the first Gravitational Wave Observatory in Space

Philippe Jetzer is Professor for Physics at the University of Zurich and member of the UZH Space Hub network. In our latest video he explains the ambitions space project LISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna).

Under the lead of ESA, in collaboration with NASA and an international consortium including scientists from the University or Zurich, the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) is planned to be placed in space. Philippe Jetzer is the Swiss representative in the LISA Science Study Team of ESA.

To enable the detection of gravitational waves, the measurement instrumentation of LISA should be placed on three satellites which are positioned 2.5 million km apart from each other - a setup the Earth would be so small for.

The measurements should help to understand  fundamental questions of astrophysics, including the history of the universe, galaxy evolution and even Einstein's theory of general relativity.

The launch of the LISA Mission is planned for 2036
