UZH Space Hub

From Lab to Space: Space Life Science Research from university- and industry-perspectives

Space Cafè poster

How do organisms such as the humane body react to the environment of Space? Space Life Sciences investigate this, but performing experiments in Space is a difficult task. Listen to Svantje Tauber (University of Zurich) and Astrid Adrian (Airbus Defence and Space) talking about the challenges of preparing and performing biological experiments in weightlessness, considering biological, technical, and operational aspects.

Join us in this Space Café event, on July 14, 2022, at 13:30. This event will take place in a hybrid mode, on-site (Irchel campus) and online. However, seats are limited and will be assigned on a first come-first serve basis. Registration at the end of this page

Speakers

Svantje Tauber

Svantje Tauber is researcher associate at the "Cell Biology - Gravitational Biology and Biomechanics" group at the institute of anatomy of the University of Zurich. She has a PhD in Biology and her research focuses on the reaction of human cells to altered gravity, tackled by exposing isolated human cells to altered gravity conditions on parabolic flights, sounding rockets or on the International Space Station (ISS). Svantje is also working for the UZH Space Hub, the innovation cluster "Space and Aviation" of the UZH Innovation Hub. Here she is the point of contact for Space Life Science projects and part of the team that aims to link fundamental UZH research with applied science to foster innovations for society and economy.

Astrid Adrian

Astrid Adrian studied Biology in Würzburg and then completed the Space Master Programme, a cooperation between the University of Würzburg and the University of Luleå. She did her PHD at DLR (Cologne) in cooperation with Airbus (EADS Astrium), within the ISS project TRIPLE LUX. In 2010, Astrid start working for Airbus as a systems engineer on various ISS payloads in Life Science and since 2016 she works in her function as Project Manager. In her free time she enjoys sports and excursions with her two children.
